Microsoft shareholders demand an inquiry

To investigate Bill Gates’ alleged misconduct.  The company’s policy on sexual harassment are outlined in the company’s policies. Investors are seeking additional details on the policies that, they say, allowed Bill Gates’ alleged misconduct.

 The Times of London reported that Glass Lewis, a proxy firm, demanded John Thompson’s removal from the position of one of the company’s directors. According to the report, Thompson was responsible for an investigation into Gates’s alleged conduct.

 Arjuna Capital, an investment firm it announced in June it would add a shareholder resolution this year’s proxy. This resolution seeks an impartial and open inquiry into allegations of gender discrimination at the firm as well as sexual harassment.

 The proposal’s text: “Reports about Bill Gates’ inappropriate interactions with and sexual advances toward Microsoft employees have added to fears, calling into question the culture cultivated by the top management and the role of the board in holding accountable those accountable.”

 The report said: “Investors are worried that Microsoft might be experiencing a culture of sexual harassment that could jeopardize the company’s ability to draw top talent.”

 Arjuna has also demanded the publication of “any independent investigation into allegations of executive-level, including the recent Gates’ allegations.”

 Microsoft advised shareholders not to vote for the resolution included in proxy materials. Microsoft said that it will duplicate existing procedures.

 Microsoft plans to launch an annual report that will be public about its gender discrimination and sexual harassment policies, according to the company.
